SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamic A Functional Approach to Self-Defense

The SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamics is an eclectic mix of Filipino Martial Arts, using the power/flow principle, empty-hand techniques with a deep-rooted- weapon-based combative curriculum, that is simple and does not require an inordinate amount of time learn and apply effectively. It’s distilled to the bare bone essentials so that each technique is simple to recall and execute under duress in disadvantage environmental conditions. The SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamics training focuses on essential components of what a combative system should have, which are simplicity, explosiveness, capability, self-awareness, and aggressiveness. The system stays free from the corruptive influences and strictly uses just what is essential for an effective edged weapon defense.

The SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamics is not a fighting style but a system that teaches that a fight is not a reciprocal event but instead it is something you do to the attacker instead of with the attacker. This requires an understanding of the distinct difference between Combative vs. Martial Arts, and traditional vs non-traditional disarms for edged weapon attacks.

In the SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamics Curriculum, we teach that while defending yourself against an attacker you immediately, and effectively reverse the confrontation dynamic by attacking the attacker’s sense of balance and structure.

It is my belief that reaction time increases with the number of alternatives. For example, if you have three or four different techniques for the same type of attack, your reaction time will be slower if you only know one.

SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamics has been taught to Civilian Groups, Martial Artists, Law Enforcement and Special Operation Units in and around the State of Texas. We offer instructor certification for those wishing to learn and or teach SMJ Edged Weapon Dynamics under the auspices of the SMJ Martial Arts Federation.
